Reports of the Collection Agencies A and B (1957–1969)

Collection Agencies A and B were established in the wake of Article 26 Sec. 2 of the Staatsvertrag ("Austrian State Treaty") of 15 May 1955, in which the Republic of Austria undertook to transfer to so-called receiving organizations heirless assets or unclaimed assets, rights and interests that were eligible for restitution. Collection Agencies A and B, located in Vienna, were established on the basis of the Auffangorganisationengesetz ("Receiving Organizations Act").

Collection Agency A was responsible for the assets, rights and interests of persons who had been members of the Jewish Community on 31 December 1937; Collection Agency B was responsible for the assets, rights and interests of all other persons who had had their assets seized under the Nazi regime.

By order of the Federal Ministry of Finance, no. 217.424-34/62 of 14 January 1963, Collection Agencies A and B were instructed to submit an interim report. The report, dated 9 April 1963, documents the Collection Agencies’ bodies, statutes and rules of procedure and describes its working methods. The interim report also contains 17 supplements comprising announcements, forms and surveys and statistics on the Collection Agencies’ activities.

Once Collection Agencies A and B had completed their work, in May 1969 their Director Dr. Georg Weis submitted a final report containing a final account of the Collection Agencies’ work and an overall statement of account.

The Final Report of the Collection Agencies (1957–1969) is published with the kind permission of the Austrian Court of Audit (file no. 890.004/421-1B2/16).
